our history
We live to glorify God in all we do
The present day Archdiocese of Kasama was founded at Mambwe Mwela in 1891 by Missionaries of Africa popularly known as White Fathers. It was part of a vast Vicariate comprising Northern and Eastern Zambia and Malawi. Bishop Joseph DuPont, (M. Afr.) of French origin, famously known in local language as Motomoto – fire fire, was the first Vicar Apostolic. He became the first bishop of Zambia at Kayambi Mission in 1897.
